McLaren stole the show at the Austrian Grand Prix with a dominant 1-2 finish, while Red Bull faced heartbreak on home turf as Verstappen crashed out early and Williams suffered a disastrous double DNF.

McLaren emerged as the stars of the Austrian Grand Prix, achieving a remarkable 1-2 finish. Meanwhile, Ferrari enjoyed a positive result, and Red Bull experienced disappointment on their home circuit, compounded by a double retirement for Williams.

The race was filled with drama from the very beginning.

Before the official start, Carlos Sainz's Williams encountered a significant issue during the formation lap. The car stalled and was subsequently moved to the pit lane, where it unexpectedly caught fire, forcing Sainz to retire prematurely. This incident led to a ten-minute delay and a reduction of one lap from the total race distance.

The race commenced with only 19 drivers. Lando Norris of McLaren seized the lead, closely followed by his teammate Oscar Piastri, who overtook Charles Leclerc of Ferrari.

In a shocking turn of events, Max Verstappen of Red Bull was forced to retire early due to a collision with Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli at Turn 3. Antonelli misjudged his braking, resulting in a crash that ended Verstappen's race abruptly.

On Lap 4, former Mercedes teammates George Russell and Lewis Hamilton engaged in a fierce battle. Russell voiced his frustration over the radio, accusing Hamilton of aggressive defending for fourth position.

By Lap 5, the DRS was enabled, narrowing the gap between the two McLarens to just half a second. This raised concerns about a potential collision, reminiscent of the incident in Canada. On Lap 11, Piastri briefly overtook Norris at Turn 3, but Norris quickly reclaimed the lead at Turn 4.

The Ferrari teammates also had a close battle, with Leclerc managing to maintain his lead over Hamilton throughout the middle stages of the race. Around Lap 20, another near-miss between the McLaren cars prompted Norris to make a pit stop. Meanwhile, Piastri received a warning from his engineer regarding a risky maneuver at Turn 4, which was deemed "too marginal."

Red Bull's misfortunes continued when Yuki Tsunoda made contact with Franco Colapinto on Lap 31, resulting in a 10-second penalty for Tsunoda.

On Lap 54, Colapinto's attempt to take the slipstream from a Red Bull led to him pushing Piastri off the track. This dangerous moment nearly cost the Australian driver his race.

Despite the various incidents, the McLaren drivers maintained their dominance. Norris ultimately secured the victory, followed by Piastri, completing a dominant 1-2 finish for the team.

Sauber celebrated their first points of the season with an 8th-place finish. Racing Bulls also had a positive race, with Liam Lawson finishing 6th and Isack Hadjar finishing 12th.

Williams, on the other hand, had a weekend to forget. With Sainz's pre-race retirement and Alexander Albon's early exit, the team suffered a double DNF.
