Speculation surrounding a potential romance between British tennis sensation Emma Raducanu and Spanish superstar Carlos Alcaraz was put to rest during a recent pre-Wimbledon press conference. Raducanu addressed the rumors head-on, clarifying the nature of her relationship with the five-time Grand Slam winner.
Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz share a light moment during a training session.
The rumors gained momentum after Raducanu was seen supporting Alcaraz during his semi-final match at the HSBC Championships at Queen's Club. However, Raducanu firmly stated, "We're just good friends."
When a reporter attempted to move on from the topic, Raducanu playfully quipped, "Way to wrap it up," adding a touch of humor to the situation.
The two tennis stars have been seen practicing together, fueling further speculation. They are also scheduled to play mixed doubles at the US Open later this year.
"It was fun yesterday. We were both on court with Evian, just getting some volley practice ahead of New York. I'm really happy to be playing with him. We had a great time," Raducanu said about their recent practice session.
Raducanu also revealed that Alcaraz initiated the mixed doubles partnership. "Yes, he asked me. He asked me earlier on in the year, and I was very surprised, honoured, and excited," she confirmed.
Raducanu, who famously won the 2021 US Open, has faced challenges in maintaining consistency since her victory. Alcaraz, on the other hand, has continued his ascent in the tennis world, adding to his collection of major titles following his 2022 US Open win.
Alcaraz is preparing to compete in Wimbledon 2025, where he will face Fabio Fognini in the first round.
The upcoming US Open presents an exciting opportunity for Raducanu and Alcaraz to collaborate in mixed doubles, marking a new chapter in their respective careers.
