Veteran actress Zeenat Aman, known for her candid reflections on cinema and life, took to Instagram in August 2023 to share throwback photographs with her “favorite co-star,” Dharmendra. Alongside the pictures, she opened up about their camaraderie, gender role reversal in films, and some unforgettable on-set memories that continue to stay with her.

Zeenat calls Dharmendra her favorite

Looking back at her time in Hindi cinema, Zeenat Aman wrote, “Of the many actors I had the privilege of being a co-star to, Dharm ji was my favorite. Yes, he was strikingly handsome, but more importantly, he was a down-to-earth gentleman. There were no pretenses or airs about him, and that made me feel most comfortable on set.” The actress recalled that they had starred together in multiple films, including the international heist thriller Shalimar. She reminisced about how both actors worked diligently to overcome their respective challenges with language: “Dharm ji required assistance with his English dialogues, and I required help with my Hindi. And so, post the daily shoot, you would find each of us with our respective tutors, studiously running our lines for hours!”

Saare Bazaar Karenge Pyar—a song with a strong message

While the pictures she shared weren’t from Shalimar, Zeenat Aman revealed that the first image was from the song “Saare Bazaar Karenge Pyar” in the film Kaatilon Ke Kaatil.
She pointed out its progressive undertone, saying, “It’s an excellent number, with a full-fledged gender role reversal! I posted this image first because I think people should have the right to dress as they please, without being threatened or assaulted. The second image, she explained, was from the film Jagir. Sharing a fond memory of their striking costumes, she wrote, “I had on a glittering silver jumpsuit, and Dharm ji had a matching one in black leather! The song is called ‘Naya Naya Hota Hain Purana Purana,’ which could be quite a good heading for an essay about my Instagram debut!”Concluding her post warmly, Zeenat Aman added, “Have a wonderful day, everyone.”
