Shubman Gill's magnificent innings of 269 against England in the recent Birmingham Test was met with praise from all corners, including his family. However, his father had a rather humorous take on his son's achievement.
Gill's impressive knock, featuring 30 fours and three sixes, helped India amass a commanding first-innings total of 587. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video on Instagram showcasing messages from Gill's parents following his incredible innings.

In his message, Gill’s father said, "Well played, I enjoyed watching your batting, and my heart was at peace. You were batting like in your U-16 and U-19 days — I felt very proud." His mother added, “Felt amazing watching you bat, keep going, God bless you.”
However, Gill revealed a light-hearted moment that wasn't included in the voice notes: his father’s cheeky comment about the missed triple century.
"It means a lot coming from him. But he also told me I missed my triple century. Hopefully, we'll end this match on a great note," Gill chuckled.

Gill emphasized the importance of his father and best friend in his cricketing career. He stated that their opinions are the only ones that truly matter to him. It is believed that his best friend is fellow national teammate, Abhishek Sharma.
“This message means a lot to me. I think, growing up, I played almost all of my cricket for my dad, in the sense that it was because of him that I started playing. And the only person besides him is my best friend, whom I practised with. These are the only two people, when it comes to my cricket, that I care about and that I listen to,” Gill explained.
Now, with a substantial first-innings lead, India hopes to capitalize on Gill's brilliant batting performance and secure a victory against England. As captain, Gill's leadership and strategic acumen will be put to the test.
