India U-19's Vaibhav Suryavanshi unleashed an explosive batting display, smashing 86 runs off just 31 balls, including a staggering nine sixes and six fours, securing a four-wicket win against England U-19 in the third Youth ODI on Wednesday.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi celebrates a six during his record-breaking innings.
The 14-year-old left-handed batter achieved a blistering 20-ball fifty, instrumental in India's successful chase of England's 269-run target in just 34.3 overs in the rain-shortened 40-over contest.
Suryavanshi's innings set a new record for the most sixes hit by an Indian batter in youth ODIs, surpassing the previous record of eight, jointly held by Raj Angad Bawa and Mandeep Singh.
His half-century, achieved in a mere 20 balls, now stands as the second-fastest by an Indian in youth ODIs, only trailing Rishabh Pant's 18-ball feat against Nepal U19 in 2016.
The young Rajasthan Royals player showcased his remarkable ability to find the boundary, with 78 of his 86 runs coming from fours and sixes. This accounted for an astonishing 90.69 percent of his total score, placing him among a select group of only four Indians to have achieved such a high proportion of runs through boundaries in a Youth ODI innings.
England U-19, batting first after winning the toss, set a competitive total of 268 for six wickets in their allotted overs. Their captain, Thomas Rew, remained unbeaten with a solid 76 off 44 deliveries, establishing a challenging target for the Indian side.
Suryavanshi's consistent form throughout the series has been noteworthy, currently leading the batting charts with 179 runs in three innings. His impressive strike rate of 213.09 in the ongoing five-match ODI series underscores his aggressive batting style.
This innings marked Suryavanshi's highest score in his six youth ODIs for India, highlighting his progress as a promising talent within the Indian cricket's youth setup. His aggressive approach and ability to consistently clear the boundaries have made him a valuable asset to the India U19 team.
